Tap & Musical Theater

Beginning Tap
0 to 1 year of experience
2nd - 4th grade
Students will develop their coordination and rhythm through this introduction to Broadway style tap dancing. As the year progresses they will add a variety of fundamental steps to their repertoire and increase their speed and accuracy. We will practice fun combinations to a variety of upbeat music.

Intermediate Tap

1 to 2 years of tap experience or extensive dance training in another form
3rd - 6th grade
Although students do not need prior experience to join this class, it will move along faster than the beginning class. Students will develop their coordination and rhythm as they explore both Broadway and Rhythm styles of tap. As students learn new combinations they will increase their speed and accuracy. Once they have a repertoire of steps they will have the chance to improvise, developing their musicianship.

Musical Theater Production: Shrek Junior

No prior experience necessary

6th-8th grade

We will study many styles of dance including Broadway Jazz, Soft Shoe, and Hip Hop. Although this class will focus primarily on dance, we will also work on singing and acting techniques. We will explore music from a wide variety of styles and time periods and we will learn to convey our characters during a musical number. Although this class does not culminate in a large scale musical, we will sing and dance our way into the hearts of our audience at the end of year recital.
